Growing as beacons of Christ’s Light in our communities
(The prayers for this service are taken from Common Worship and Prayers
for the Church of England (version 2016) and Prayers for the Outbreak: Anon.)
Greeting
Grace, mercy and peace
from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ
be with you
All: and also with you
This is the day the Lord has made.
All: Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
We have come together in the name of Christ
to offer our praise and thanksgiving,
to hear and receive God’s holy word,
to pray for the needs of the world,
and to seek forgiveness for our sins,
that by the power of the Holy Spirit
we may give ourselves to the service of God;
Let us, therefore, pray together and remember God’s
Presence with is now.

All: Almighty God,
To whom all hearts are open,
all desires known and from whom no secrets are hidden:
cleanse the thoughts of our hearts
by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit,
that we may perfectly love you
and worthily magnify your holy name
through Christ our Lord
Amen.
The prayers of penitence
God so loved the world
that he gave his only Son Jesus Christ
to save us from our sins,
to be our advocate in heaven,
and to bring us to eternal life:
Let us, therefore, confess our sins in penitence and faith firmly resolved to keep God’s commandments and to live in love and peace with all:
All: Lord God,
we have sinned against you;
we have done what is wrong in your sight;
we are sorry and repent.
Have mercy on us according to your love,
cleanse us from our sin;
renew a right spirit within us,
and restore us to the joy of your salvation,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Page 2
May the father of all mercies
cleanse us from our sins
and restore us in his image,
to the praise and glory of his name,
through Jesus Christ our Lord;
All: Amen
Blessed is the Lord,
All: For he has heard our prayer.
Therefore, shall our hearts dance for joy
All: and in our songs we will praise our God.
Amen

The Creed
All: I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died and was buried;
he descended to the dead:
on the third day he rose again;
he ascended to heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of the saints, the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting.
Amen
Prayers of intercession (Especially chosen to reflect our current concerns)
Let us pray to the Lord who is our refuge and our stronghold:
For the health and wellbeing of our nation,
that all who are fearful and anxious may be at peace and free from worry:
Lord in your mercy
All: hear our prayer
Page 4
For the isolated and housebound,
that we may be alert to their needs
and care for them in their vulnerability
Lord in your mercy
All: hear our prayer
For our homes and families,
our children and young people
the hungry and the lonely
and those who are self-isolating
Lord in your mercy
All: hear our prayer
For a blessing on our community
that our neighbourhoods may be places of trust and
friendship where all are known and cared for
Lord in your mercy
All: hear our prayer
Give skill, sympathy and resilience to all who are caring for the sick
and grant your wisdom to those searching for a cure
Lord in your mercy
All: hear our prayer
We commend ourselves and all those for whom we pray to your mercy and protection loving and wise Father.
Lord in your mercy
All: hear our prayer
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen

Gathering our prayers into one, let us pray as Jesus taught us
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come
your will be done
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil:
for the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and for ever. Amen
Closing prayers
All: Almighty God,
we thank you for the gift of your holy word.
may it be a lantern at our feet,
a light upon our paths
and a strength to our lives.
take us and use us
to love and serve all people
in the power of the Holy Spirit
and in the name of your Son
Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen
May the Lord watch over us all this day/night
may he smile upon us and be gracious unto us
today and always.
All: Amen
Go in peace to love and serve the Lord
All: in the name of Christ. Amen
